Transparency International Portugal hosted by the Permanent Mission of Equatorial Guinea to the CPLP

Transparência e Integridade – Transparency International Portugal (TI-PT) was hosted by the Permanent Mission of Equatorial Guinea to the CPLP, at the invitation of Ambassador Tito Mba Ada.

The meeting, which took place on August 26, in Lisbon, was meant to present APROFORT, a new project that includes the setup of a Legal Clinic in Malabo, coordinated by a local lawyer, María Jesús Bikene, and an Observatory of Human Rights and Good Governance.

During the meeting, the Executive Director of TI-PT, Karina Carvalho, and the project manager, Lucas Olo, also discussed the situation of activists and civil society organisations working to promote human rights and good governance in Equatorial Guinea was also discussed, as well as the APROFORT’s main goals:

1. Abolition of the death penalty;
2. Protection of activists, organisations and vulnerable minority groups; and
3. Greater compliance with the Millennium Development Goals and Human Rights.

APROFORT is a project that provides support, protection and strengthening to civil society organizations in Equatorial Guinea. To this end, it has established a legal clinic in Malabo that assists human rights defenders, women and girls and LGTB community members in vulnerable situation. The project is co-financed by the European Union and implemented by Transparencia e Integridade (TI-Portugal).
